Last Updated on: Jun 5, 2024

Love is a feeling that transcends all. Love makes us do wonders. But where do we find it? Is it in the eyes of our beloved? Or is it just holding the hands of our dear one that makes you feel loved? Or is it in the green mountains or the blue seas and the yellow sands. For travel crazy couples like us, we find our happiness on the road, in the realms of nature or in the thrill of an adventure. With the Valentines Day just around the corner, here’s a list of places to visit in Valentines Day – 14 romantic destinations for your romantic heart. But of course, you can visit these places anytime. Whoever needs a reason to celebrate love? Who needs a reason to travel?

Although St. Valentine did not only spoke of romantic love; it is only after Chaucer’s poetry in the 14th Century that Valentine’s Day got the romantic connotation. Interestingly, for Bengalis, Saraswati Puja is the eternal Valentines day. As kids, we knew about Saraswati Puja where girls used to wear saris and go to school. Young boys and girls would eye each other coyly. It used to be days of fun. Only when we were in high school, we came to know of Valentines Day. Another interesting thing is that Saraswati Puja and Valentines Day almost fall on the same month within a few days gap.

Before I start, let me tell you that our first Valentine’s Day was celebrated way back in 2006 at Rabindra Sarobar Lake in Kolkata!

Places to visit in Valentines Day in India – 14 Romantic Destinations

Darjeeling

This does not come as a surprise as our love for Darjeeling is well known. So Darjeeling tops our list. The roads of Darjeeling, the Mall and the tea gardens are all there with their romantic splendour. The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway or in layman’s terms the toy train ride along the hilly roads can turn anyone romantic. Just imagine the cold Darjeeling weather, have a cup of steaming Darjeeling Tea and get cosy with your partner.

Meghalaya

If there be a place between heaven and earth, it has to be Meghalaya. The dreamy landscapes, the innumerable waterfalls and the misty surroundings add charm to Meghalaya. Visit the known Shillong and Cherrapunji or explore the offbeat places, Meghalaya will never fail to charm you.

Sikkim

The small and beautiful Himalayan state is any travellers delight. Take a walk along the M. G. Marg, or visit the ever-gorgeous Pelling, Sikkim can be as romantic as you want it to be. Do not believe me? These wonderful pictures of Sikkim will prove that I am not wrong.

Coorg

Coorg is not only a coffee lover’s paradise, but also a place for the romantics. From the misty hills to the towering trees, Coorg is oozing love. The freshness of Coorg is as beautiful as the flush of first love. Coorg was the first place away from Bengal that we had visited together. And that was 12 years back! We visited the place back again in 2017 and it remains one of our favourite places.

Tawang

Tawang, tucked at one of the farthest corners of eastern India is another of our favourite. The place has a monastery (Tawang Monastery), waterfall (Jung Waterfall) and numerous lakes scattered throughout its landscape. The most famous lake is Madhuri Lake. Tawang is serene and is one of the best places to lose yourself with your partner.

Majuli

How about spending time some in one of the largest river islands in the world? That is Majuli for you – a dreamy and laidback destination in the midst of the Brahmaputra River. Rent a bicycle and roam around the island at your own pace. Visit the mask making village of Samaguri and have authentic Mishing cuisine. Majuli is simply a different world. Read about our Majuli Guide to know more about the place.

Neil Island, Andaman

The pristine blue waters of the Neil Islands are the perfect place to spend your time with your sweetheart. About 2 hours ferry ride from Port Blair, Neil Island is secluded than its more famous cousin Havelock Island, and that’s what we liked about the place. The beaches are perfect with blue waters and golden sands. Just hire a bicycle or scooty and you can ride through the length and breadth of the island. Neil gives you ample time and place to be alone with your partner – imagine just the two of you in a vast stretch of beach without anyone in sight! Read about our complete Andaman Travel Guide.

We found Hampi to be extremely beautiful and romantic. With so many ancient temples and architectures, Hampi is the place for the history buffs. Yet the inherent charm of Hampi is undeniable. Just go on top of the Hemkuta Hill to watch the sunset! Or take a coracle ride with your partner on the Tungabhadra River. Hampi can be simply romantic and charming.
