• Chinese New Year day is traditionally called the chūyī in Chinese calendar. It is the day of family visits and New Year greetings.
• The New Year day is the first day of the Chinese lunar calendar. It is celebrated during the winter holidays. The date is different to each year on the Gregorian calendar, but always fall between the last week of January to the last week of February.
• The  New Year was so set to coincide with the inactive time just before a new year of farming begins. The Chinese traditionally celebrates the New Year with the prayer of good harvest and crop. Now it has evolved into an auspicious start for business or any venture. The New Year is also called the spring festival.
• The official holiday for the Chinese New Year is for 7 days. The traditional holiday period is 23 days.
• Every Chinese New Year starts with a new animal’s zodiac year. 2017 is the year of rooster followed by the year of dog in 2018.
• Billions of red envelopes are exchanged in the New Year. The envelope contains money. It is considered to be a good luck among the Chinese.
